South Carolina Economic Impact Reports*

Forests have always played an important part in the history and economics of South Carolina. The first record of a forest products industry dates to 1670 when boards were sawn near the mouth of the Ashley River. Today South Carolina’s forests provide the raw material for the state's forest products industry - the largest manufacturing industry in South Carolina.
